Memor-e-scapes
This collection of work is for an exhibition at The Banff Centre, Canada, titled 'Memor-e-scapes'. 'Memor-e-scapes' consists of photography and ceramics, and explores the interaction between person and place. As an Australian currently based in Banff, I am interested in the concept of memory and movement, where recollections of times in our lives are characterized by specific environments, and gain meaning after memory sets in. I believe that creating that alchemy is essentially why people love to travel.
The locations shown in the photos are from Australia and Canada - two ends of the earth, where the red shapes symbolise the presence of the individual within the place. The ceramic masks (not shown) in the show represent the earth, and allude to the changes a person undergoes through the art of travel.
